IMOS Ports unification
Sometimes we need to match IMOS ports with other system...for integration, for reporting purposes.
It`s possible only manually now.
There is field U.N. Code in port description but...
1. Codes are not kept updated (ANxxx, YUxxx ... are outdated)
2. Some ports have this code missing
3. More than one distinctive ports may have same U.N. Code (YUKOT)
Could you please verify U.N. Codes in Ports list and keep it updated
Thank you

Per Ostman AdminHi Dmitry, thanks for reaching out on this. We are currently undertaking an effort to align the standard ports in IMOS with the official codes provisioned by the UN. This however is a long term effort, so please reach out directly and we can discuss ways to tactically solve problems you may be experiencing.

Per Ostman AdminFurther to my last - However, the unfortunate reality is that UN Code is not an ideal choice for an interface unique identifier - not all ports in our database (as requested by the client community) are officially recognized and given a UN Code. Also, the official UN list always contains ports with duplicate codes. IMOS maintains a system-managed unique identifier (rnport) that should instead be used for integration.

Jan ØrskouHi Per
Just found this old case, and the topic aligns with something that is also on our agenda. We would also like to see that UN codes are better maintained in VIP, as we would also like to use it for interfacing and mapping between our systems. We understand the challenges of it not always being unique but still it is a great identifier for mapping especially in combination with the port name.
We find it however very challenging that approx. 1/3 of the ports in VIP doesn't have any UN code. I am well aware that not all ports exist in the UN repository but I came across a place on their website where registered users can request new UN codes for single or multiple ports (by upload of data file). https://apps.unece.org/unlocode/
I would like to suggest that Veson implement processes internally to ensure that all your ports have UN codes. This means that you should request UN to create UN codes for existing ports as well as for new ports you add to the system.
